On Friday, I talked about November Facebook thankful posts. I have participated in this in previous years, so I was looking back through some of my personal Facebook thankful statuses, and came across this one from last year.

Our family is not well off. Sometimes, we are not even comfortable. Quitting my well-paying job to stay home with our kids changed our lifestyle drastically, but no matter our struggles, we have never had to worry about the kids’ basic needs, and we have always been able to make holidays special.

Not everyone can say this. Many families worry this time of year. They worry that the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner is financially unattainable, and that their family will miss out on the magic of celebrating with a holiday spread.

Throughout history, people have marked important days with a special meal.

Jill Smokler, the amazing woman behind Scary Mommy, wrote a blog post in 2011 that sparked what is now an official 501(c)3 non-profit, and so far has provided 2081 struggling moms with the means to give their kids a nice meal for Thanksgiving.

Sometimes, all people need is just a little lift during a particularly difficult time. $50 can provide a Thanksgiving meal to a family, but any donation amount helps.
