What is it about the ladies’ room? After 30 plus years, it still surprises me to hear life stories being told through stalls, strangers offering advice on fashion and grooming, and tearful young women breaking down next to the soap dispenser.
Women share things in the powder room that they wouldn’t dare say at the dinner table or without the verbal lubricant of several cocktails. It is our safe space, and even my four-year-old daughter is beginning to show the effects of the elixir of truth that is the bathroom. Maybe it’s the acoustics that make her declarations seem so loud, and maybe she’s really just trying to whisper her observations about my body, but either way, she’s been kicked out of the nest that is a shared stall, and is flying solo when in the bathroom.
Some of my favorite stories are from bathroom conversations with my girlfriends, and now that magic is in a book! That I’m in!
Leslie Marinelli and the rest of the women behind In The Powder Room have compiled a hilarious collection of true tales by women, for women, about being women—bodily changes, relationships, careers, motherhood, aging, illness, and more—written with the humor and grit that proudly sets In The Powder Room apart. But be forewarned: we’re holding nothing back. We’re revealing our funniest deep dark secrets—because it’s through our most vulnerable and honest moments that we forge the strongest connections and discover we aren’t so alone after all.
“You Have Lipstick on Your Teeth” and Other Things You’ll Only Hear from Your Friends In The Powder Room boasts an amazing group of authors that you can read about HERE. I am terribly proud to be a part of this book, and I hope you love it as much as I do.
There is a bit of summer left, the kids are going back to school soon, and now is the perfect time to get a fun new book. What are you waiting for?!
