MomAssembly is Saving Our Summer

Tips to a calmer, easier, and happier way of parenting.

I love my kids. I like spending time with them, and they make me laugh every day.

Those two also make me crazy, what with the way they ignore my direction, and how they bicker over the most ridiculous things. Between the rumbles over who is “breathing the best,” and they way I have to tell them four times and finally shout before they put on their shoes, our summer together had gotten a little heavy on the yelling.

And no one was liking it.

Then I learned about MomAssembly, an online video education site for moms that was co-founded by Jill Spivack and Jen Waldburger. Jill and Jen have assembled experts from an incredible number of fields, created online courses suited for busy moms, and offered it in a user-friendly, affordable website. It’s simple and extensive at the same time, and I’m seriously impressed.

I cruised the course options, which include everything from Coping with Post Partum Depression, to Step-by-Step Sleep Training for Nights, to Coping With Preschool Panic. I was past all of those phases of parenthood, but there were many others that looked interesting.

I’m sure my husband would like it if I spent some time investigating Marriage and Conflict Resolution, and what mom wouldn’t want to learn about Keeping Your Child Safe from Predators? The course that screamed my name at this particular point of summer vacation though, was Calmer, Easier, Happier Parenting 101.

In this course, I learned five strategies to take the battles out of parenting from an internationally renowned expert on the learning and behavior of children, and you guys, they really work. I begin employing the tips immediately, and they are simple enough to continue to use consistently.

Here’s a clip of Noël Janis-Norton’s course, where she talks about motivating children through descriptive praise. It’s funny, it points out some common mistakes, and I found it so helpful!

My kids haven’t said anything about the lack of yelling around here, but there are fewer tears (from all of us), and it has changed the tone of our household for the better. I couldn’t be more pleased about the results from my inaugural class, and at only $7.99/month for up to four family members and caregivers, or $3.99/month for a year’s membership, unlimited access to the more than 500 courses is a steal.

That’s right, I said 500 courses. And MomAssembly is still adding more! Just this week I received an email telling me a brand new course has been added: Water Safety 101.

As soon as I’m done typing this post, I’m jumping right into that course. My seven-year-old is not a strong swimmer. Earlier this summer, a friend of mine killed the iPhone in her pocket when she jumped in the pool to help my boy to the edge. He can swim okay, until he can’t, and then he freezes, in a panic. His younger sister, at five, still wants to wear a floatie, and has no interest in putting her face in the water.

This time of year, when we are around pools so frequently, I worry. I kick myself for not getting them into swimming lessons sooner. I remind them of pool safety when are around pools, but do they remember? Am I doing enough?

Do you have parenting questions? Do you wonder if there is a better way? Are there things you don’t even know you don’t know?

I wish MomAssembly would have been around when I was in the thick of the baby and toddler years. I really could have used the 19 page Potty Learning guide that comes with the insanely popular Potty Learning: The Do’s, Don’ts and the Oops of Poops.

MomAssembly is ready for you, to give you useful guidance and techniques, and since all of the classes are online, you can start and stop whenever it’s convenient for your schedule.

And the first 10 readers to sign up for a subscription plan will receive their first month free! Only ten, though, so click this link quickly and be one of the lucky ten!

Parenting is tricky business, and there are experts who have useful tools to make things easier. Let MomAssembly help!

MomAssembly compensated me for this post, and hooked me up with a free month of courses, but the opinions are my own.

  1. I love how the course helped you to stop yelling! I feel so much more on my game when I’m not yelling and I’m using other parenting tricks. You are right, the kids are calmer, I’m calmer and the house is calmer. Thanks for a great post!
